贝勒医学院临床遗传咨询研究生班开始接受报名

   贝勒医学院,落于德克萨斯州的休士顿,位于著名的德克萨斯医学中心里面,被认为是全美最杰出的医学院之一,将开展遗传咨询研究生教育培训。学员将在联合科学学院和贝勒医学院的环境下,针对美国国内最大的遗传病患者群体,进行系统的遗传知识学习。

The Genetic Counseling Program offered at Baylor College of Medicine will provide an integrated medical genetics graduate education. Students will benefit from the School of Allied Health Sciences and Baylor College of Medicine environment which places emphasis on the values ofrespect, integrity, innovation, teamwork, and excellence.

 

We anticipate beginning to accept applications in the fall of 2017. Complete the Application Notification Form to receive notification when the application is available.

Clinical

Our location in the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest medical complex, gives our students access to several ofthe nation’s leading hospitals. Our exceptionally diverse patientcare activities including the nation’s largest clinical genetics program with prenatal, pediatric, adult and cancer clinical encounters, allows rich exposure to patients and families from many cultural and ethnic groups.

 

Research

Our students will have access to research activities within the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Molecular and Human Genetics, which surpasses all other genetic departments nationally in funding from the National Institutes of Health. The partnership between the Baylor Genetics Laboratory and Baylor provides unique educational experiences for students seeking either laboratoryor industry related genetic counseling careers. Clinical research experience, including access to DNA sequencing as part of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network, is integral to our program.

 

Community

Houston is the most diverse large metropolitan area in the country. Our students will gain valuable insights through community outreach programs and supplemental activities that transform perspectives on disease and redefine personalized medical care.

 

Faculty

Our faculty includes more than 35 genetic counselors. Brendan Lee, M.D., Ph.D., the Robert and Janice McNair Endowed chair of molecular and human genetics, has been a driving force behind the vision and creation of a Baylor genetic counseling training program. 

 

Mission and Vision

The mission of the Baylor College of Medicine Genetic Counseling Program is to provide a genomic medicine education promoting excellence in the science of genetics and the practice of geneticcounseling across the continuum of care. The interdisciplinary team of clinical, laboratory and research faculty available at Baylor provides experiences that empower graduates to become empathic professionals with effective critical thinking skills.

The program exemplifies Baylor College of Medicine's values with an overriding commitment to diversity and inclusion through effective teaching and collaboration across Baylor and its affiliated institutions while maintaining an innovative education program that promotes personal, intellectual, and clinical integrity.

 

Accreditation

Graduate programs ingenetic counseling must be accredited before students enroll so that their graduates are eligible to take the American Board of Genetic Counseling certification exam. The body that accredits genetic counseling programs isthe Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC). The Baylor College of Medicine program is not yet accredited. Baylor initiated the ACGC accreditation process in June, 2017. An accreditation decision must be obtained before the March 15, 2018 deadline for programs to be eligible to enroll in the 2018 match.

Schoolof Allied Health Sciences
